TIE (Testing, Intervention and Education) According to the U.S. Census Bureau in 2006 reported a population of 496,575 in Volusia County of which 19% or 94,349 of these individual were under the age of eighteen (18), who could be potential carriers of sickle cell disease and are unaware of the risk to them when they become of child bearing age. In order to address the problem of this nature our agency provides education awareness, screening and testing to identify possible potential carriers of a sickle cell condition. Individuals who participate through our screening and testing services whose results are positive also receive counseling and other services within our agency. TIE program provides education awareness and information about sickle cell disease and blood sampling of school age children and young adults for sickle cell hemoglobinopathy (sickle cell disease and trait). The screening program aids in identifying potential carriers of a sickle cell condition. |
